CCP#12 – Skijumping
This map is my entry for the Christmas Calendar Project 2020.
It is my first map built for the CCP. 😉

Motivation
In 2005 when I discovered the map editor in the oldest Trackmania, I was building a Skijumping map in both Snow and Desert. Obviously, back then, I didn’t have many chances to make those maps very interesting. Snow had a great scenery for it, but the jumps are rather boring and always have the same length. Desert.. well is in the Desert.
Now I wanted to give this map idea another try. And it definitely is much closer now to realism.

Objective
This track is only secondly about WR-Hunting. The main objective is to jump as far as possible! When you got your best score, you can make a screenshot in front of the finish with your result.

Another objective is solving following puzzle: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
There are 12 hidden presents on the map, that will give you one letter each. 😉

The track
There were 2 main issues to solve to make this interesting:
1) How can I create different speeds before each jump?
2) How can I give you a length for each jump without people abusing the system?

For the first issue I had several thoughts that also determined the environment. The Valley train rails were the best idea, also as people are in some rails before jumping in reallife. Also the ValleyCar is great as it jumps very far and little speed differences result in a bigger margin of jump lengths.

The second issue was quiet a challenging one to solve, but I guess I got the best possible option one can do. Helpful is the fact, that nowadays we have smaller MediaTracker blocks, so I could use more of them in the landing area. Still, it was difficult due to the gradient of the hill and the fact I can’t rotate MT-blocks like I can do with objects. For this, the whole downhill is put 4 meters lower than usual to get the maximum of MT blocks working. Problematic is the fact that one can’t use multiple conditions for each MT-block, but with Lars and Paul I found a good solution to give everyone his length.

Also added: Invalid jumps, when
- Leaving jump area
- Bouncing up by landing on roof
- Jumping too late (imagine your trainer waves the flag and the signal goes to green and you have to start your jump in 20sec)

The map itself has a platform where trainers could stand, a city, castle, river, railroad, fields and farmers, the skijumping stadium, and a lot of nature with lakes, forests and mountains, also some dirt way leading up. And of course the tower and inrun track for starting your jump. Everything within the beautiful Snow mod by Ozon.

At the start you begin within the tower and try to go onto the inrun track. You can decide yourself, how much speed you want to take before the corner, but remember, after 20sec you have to start jumping. After landing, you will get your result with MT. And you will finish on the podium.
I want to thank Lars for helping me out with some items to make this map better. 😊
