The only problem now is, that already maps have been released that did not use the unlimiter. Therefore it shouldn't be all allowed this time. Usually I'm for the usage of the unlimiter, but only if it was clearly stated at the beginning of the contest ...
This way you are creating a unbalance between the entries and I would have also used the unlimiter.

I can understand all 3 previous posts, but my personal opinion is closer to md's. I don't mind if others use unlimiter and I don't/can't: it sure gives you more possibilities, but imho it's a lot more fun to try finding new stuff with correct block placements, e.g. without 'cheating'. I do of course understand that not everyone feels the same way, and in a way it is indeed kind of unfair if other participants can use it and we (7?) don't.

That said, if you feel it would be unfair, you can always make a new map with unlimiter :) it would mean you started building more or less at the same point as other unlimiter-users.

Sorry bout talking to much, I'm shutting up 8-|

I discussed the issue with Ville. We agreed that you are not allowed to use the new Unlimiter because it was released when the contest was already running.

This does not mean that it will be forbidden in the next MTC as well. It was just the release in the middle of the contest which made the rule necessary in our opinion.

And next time there will be another excuse [...] I can see why the unlimiter is unfair because some people are too dim to know how to use a program that doesn't even have a visible interface and doesn't need to be installed.

oh come on you can't really argue with kekx decision. it couldn't be fairer this time.

allowing the unlimiter for this mtc would be unfair for those who already uploaded a track. that's fairly easy to understand, even for those who don't get dirty with skyrim's mods.

That's exactly the reason. Doesn't matter what program it is - some people have already uploaded their tracks. It wouldn't be fair to allow other people to use more tools than what they had. As Kekx said, TMUnlimiter will be allowed again next month. I don't see any reason to start an argument about this.

@enai: most people that do not use unlimiter don't not do it because it's too hard... it's just a moral decision :) which might make little sense to you, but some people like the challenge of building sth nice with the 'limitations' of the normal editor ;)

What about multiple ways to one CP? My example would be like this here.
You build a jump which is very hard to get perfect, but feels awesome if you nail it. To prevent frustration, is it allowed to build a landing area below with an alternative way to complete the jump? Or does this ruin the idea of a platform map?

This was a few pages back--sorry for the late response--but yes, this does ruin the idea of a platform map. Being forced to choose the difficult path, and the frustration of not quite hitting that awesome jump, and then finally nailing it is, to me, the essence of platform. Just my $0.02. :)

i am trying to build a track not longer then 1:30, longer tracks do not really fit good on multiplayer servers.
Even when unlimiter is out now, i ll try to build it without - alltough generally platform tracks are a really good kind of map on to use unlimiter ... anyway, this on will be without it ;)

One thing I noticed is that the "perfect run" requirement is much more severe than the usual validation requirements. To validate a track you typically don't need to set an unbeatable time, but here you do. The intention is probably so the judges know how an "impossible" obstacle is supposed to be beaten, but you also fail if you make a mistake at an obstacle where the correct route is obvious.

It means if you're bad at driving platform you need to make an easy track so you can drive it flawlessly yourself, and then lose points because your track is easy to ace. This is holding me back right now: I can drive each individual part just fine, but I can't string them together without crashing somewhere.
