[Suggestion] Image size reducer
From the Mania Exchange Development forum on TMX United

Would be nice to have an automatic image reduction on the forums to prevent huge ones screwing with the page format.
There could be a pre defined tmx limit so all images larger than that would fit nicely.
An option to click the image to enlarge it would also be good.

Maybe a similar system for track screens would be nice too. Users could upload their image (within a certain file size) but tmx would decrease it to the pre defined size. Again the click to enlarge option would be sweet.

TimeBreaker says:
Huh, big images are already being resized.
The click-enlarge option has already been suggested for the current TMX.

Big screenshot versions can be uploaded to one of those free image hosting services so TMX doesn't have to bother about those file sizes as well.

MrA says:
Problem with those free image hosting services is we can end up with dead links.

We dont really want to build in the use of 3rd party hosts into the fabric of the site, even if we cant stop it in comments/forums.

TimeBreaker says:
What's the problem with dead links? I haven't seen any trouble in the past years of TMX with external image hosting. If we allow users to upload any images to TMX, we're responsible for what they upload too. So for forums this is really not needed. And for other stuff, most people do not even use the same image version for their track screenshot and the wallpaper version. If we need to use images for contests etc, of course they can be hosted on TMX, but I don't think that we need this service for every single user.

MrA says:
If users want to upload large images to 3rd party hosts and link to them, then let them, as they do now.

If we decide to build in support for larger or multiple images then that would be a site function. And for site functions we should keep all hosting of files local to TMX. Yes we have to think about file sizes etc, thats one of the things for us to consider before building any such function.

You wouldn't think it was a good idea to host tracks on a 3rd party host and just have TMX as a database? Same applies to other files.

You know that's a ridiculous comparison :s
Well who cares, add it :build: :build: :build:

MrA says:
Its not that ridiculous, the point is that TMX content must be hosted by TMX. If larger images become part of the trackpage, then they have become TMX content.
