I think kekx should accept imperfect runs. it's not a driving competition, is it?

It means if you're bad at driving platform you need to make an easy track so you can drive it flawlessly yourself, and then lose points because your track is easy to ace. This is holding me back right now: I can drive each individual part just fine, but I can't string them together without crashing somewhere.

To me, creating a platform track and uploading it without being able to drive that 0-restart run yourself is a bad idea. Driving that 0-run on your own platform track is just as important as setting a fast AT on a normal track. It forces you to become very familiar with the track. You learn things while you're trying, and the track often improves as a result of changes you make during that process. If you spend a lot of time driving your own track during the building process, and improving, then that track will almost always be better when it's finished.

TM2 allowing you to just set a 0-restart AT without actually having to drive it is silly. Why not allow builders to set any AT they wish on normal tracks? I don't think people would appreciate that very much. ;)

Anyway, I can understand your frustration, believe me, but I think requiring that no-restart run is a good thing. At least you can work on getting better at individual CPs in the editor without having to drive the whole track each time? :)

(While I'm at it, why does TM2 not give you the option of saving a replay when you validate a platform track? Also, why does it not automatically create a media tracker ghost when you validate your platform track? Both of these things don't make any sense.)

Edit: Also, a good platform track doesn't have to be super-difficult. Sometimes easier ones are just as much fun!

pjw, your post makes no sense tbh. you still haven't answered to the first sentence of the enai's post you quoted.

enai wants to make hard one! but he can't, because then he couldn't finish it perfectly, because he's a bad driver... so he can't make a track he wants because if his driving skills.

i unsterdand that.
pjw's point of view -if i got it right- suggests that one way to solve the problem would be changing some stunts making them a little bit more forgiving.
obviously that's just his thought, which i agree with. it would be quite lame to me releasing a platform track where i (=the buildier) can't make 0 respawn run. it would be like releasing a race track validated using the 'help ways' instead of the normal route O.o

my personal suggestion to enai would be to keep trying doing a 0-respawn run. i had the same issue with my own platform track: i was able to drive all the CPs separately but it was really hard for me nailing each and every one of them in a single run. it took me quite a lot of days to make a perfect ride.

finally if he can't really make a clear run, it would be still ok (imho) to upload a replay with 1 or 2 respawns. afterall it is meant to help the judges in seeing how the track looks like, and i dont think it would be much of an issue to have a replay with a couple of respawns.
but i would wait for ville or kekx opinions about this, as i'm not into the organization of the contest 8-|

I'd suggest practicing the different parts of your track first and finding the best ways to do each section (for example with the one wallride on my map I realised that by driving on to the wall as late as possible It was more likely for me to manage the wallride) and then in the end trying to do it all in one go.

If one part of the track really feels too hard for you try making it a little bit easier, but not too easy. Extend that one platform by a bit, but don't connect it to the point from where you jump on to it. (another example for when you're having trouble reaching a platform that is far away.)

Even though the replay is required, the judges will only need it when they can't find the way or are unsure of how a certain part works - and in that case, the builder has most probably done something else wrong anyway. ;)

I'd say that a replay with respawns is fine. As long as you drive each part as they were intended to be driven (as in, no lucky unintended stunting inbetween, no respawn routes or whatever), the replay does its job. It doesn't have to be a perfect run, but make sure that by watching the replay, the judge can understand how the track is supposed to be driven. If it's not clear, brace yourself, because if a judge understands something wrong about the track, he will judge it the way he/she sees it. And that's most likely bad for your points. :)

Here's another good answer, since you didn't like mine. :)

But since it's been decided that no-respawn replays aren't required any longer, it shouldn't be a problem anymore. :)

On a related note, having put some thought into it, I really think that Nadeo should go back to normal validation on platform tracks, rather than just allowing the author to throw medal/restart values on there. If you can't drive a no-restart run, then you shouldn't be able to put that "0" AT on it. I don't know why this was changed from TM1, but I think it's a bad call.
