I didn't have time to enter this month. I'd loved to, though.
I've driven some really creative and well crafted entries so far. (l)

Good luck to everyone !

You've contributed a lot already with the campaign PapyChampy. ;) It's okay.

I've been reading through this topic. I see I missed a nice debate over what Platform is and is not. :$

My two cents... Platform is a mode, not a style. You can build whatever you want, just as people build whatever they want in Race mode. Don't let some preconception of what Platform tracks should be limit your creativity to a certain style.

Obviously there are certain concepts behind Platform mode that you should try to respect. The main one being, to make a track that challenges the driver to drive it without respawning. A simple 20 second track with an extremely over calculated jump could qualify for that if the driver didn't have the skill to do it without trying really hard. Forcing the driver to use air control, or precision driving in parts of the track are other ways to exploit the idea behind this mode. These are just ideas though. You don't have to do those things at all.

Style-wise, the possibilities are endless.

Now we have 52 cents, we are going to become rich. :d

I have to agree with eyebo, that Platform can be built in every style like you can build Race-tracks in any style. The fact, that many people only know the official Platform campaigns does not mean, that Platform tracks can only look like them. The only important factor is, that it shouldn't be too easy in my opinion. A platform map must challenge a player and must require almost perfect driving to reach the next CP without having lucky parts. If I can finish a platform map in the second try without any respawns the map missed the aim of the mode as I already reached the maximum and doesn't have to drive it again.

In that case I think we should do again the penalty system when uploading replays to platform tracks. 10 seconds penalty for every respawn. At the moment I drive my track offline to get less respawns as possible, but here on MX the replays are ordered by best times.

I guess the best idea could be to order uploaded replays by respawns, and if 2 replays have the same amount of respawns, the replay with the better time is in front. Would that be possible? Would make sense to me. ^^ ;)

Offline, yes.

Online, you will still want to try to improve the speed and consistency in which you can drive it in order to win. As I understand it, the driver with the least number of respawns and the most finishes will win the map.

But to be honest, I haven't played Platform online since the first week it came out. So I don't know how well Platform mode is being supported online by players.

I tend to linger on servers too long and not get anything else done. :p So I'm generally trying to avoid online play these days, other than for the obligatory PMC and occasionally the MX KO.

But in theory, Platform has grown much more complex than in the past, just by virtue of the fact the mode now includes multiplayer and the way multiplayer works.

That's not to say that people won't make some uber-hard offline Platform tracks. From talking to a few people who tried your map Marius, I guess yours might be included in that group.

But I hope there's also room for easier maps, particularly for online-play, where you're still prone to make mistakes if you drive too fast and where not only driving accurately is important, but also driving fast is important in order to get the max number of runs in.

You're forgetting one thing...you're not everybody. :) You are going to finish a track a lot faster and more easily than most people. Just because you (and others) are very skilled doesn't mean we shouldn't have beginner-difficulty tracks for those who aren't as good and/or are TM newbies.

You could probably beat the AT on most non-platform tracks on this site as well. That doesn't mean the medal times are meaningless on those tracks. ;)

Submissions have closed! Thank you for 17 tracks! :)
Judges will be announced soon. In the meantime, how about giving the entries a try yourself? I'm sure some of them deserve a bit more attention than what they are getting. ;)

Thanks for the last remark, Ville.

It is true that, unfortunately, the spirit of the community seems to be deteriorating. Everybody would like to receive, but few are willing to give.

On the other hand, I would really appreciate if the judges could, this time at least, try to give GOOD reviews of the tracks. It is frustrating when you spend couple weeks on a track, and then you get "Quite good - 6/10" or "Not too difficult - 13/20" review for your track from someone who calls him/her-self "a judge".

I'll try to find the time to race as many of the tracks as possible, and give honest feedback to fellow competitors.

We don't even know the names of the judges for this one yet :p

I'm neither participating nor judging; I just wanted to mention it (brb)
