Do shadows take forever to calculate on your PC (or even fail to calculate at all)?

Save the map without shadows and link it here. Someone from the community with a better PC will calculate the shadows on high quality and send the map back to you.

interesting. Yeah, shadows take forever for me (1 - 2 hours on a normal to huge track on high quality). I have no track atm to be "shadowed" (epic word invention ftw),but it's definitely a good idea will help lots of players ;)

For me it ranges from 3-7 minutes(high quality shadows), depends how big the track is. :)

I could help, but it would be best if something like this would be on the front page(blog entry maybe?) or in pm, not always i check the forums ;)

Also make sure you are 100% finished with your track, from my own experience i do the shadows several times before i'm finally done with the track, doing little changes, calculating shadows to get a preview of the look and feel while making it to name some. :p

This is, indeed, a good idea, but when you calculate shadows and save the map it will be saved with the name of the "shadower" (epic-er new word) instead of the name of the author. Then if the author tries to change the map to make it savable with his name the shadows need to be recalculated.

No, it won't. As long as the author validates the map first, it'll be fine. It won't change the name.
Also, the author should make sure the name is exactly the way he wants it before sending it, because if the "shadower" renames it, it would probably change the author name. That's how it worked in TMF anyway.

I've already calculated shadows for almost all of behi's KO maps and it kept his name as the author.

Obviously if the author changes things again it'll remove the lightmap. So people shouldn't post their map here until it's the absolute last thing they need to do before releasing it. (y)

Exactly.

So maybe use fast calculation for that testing, and then request a final high quality calculation here if needed.

Again, this is only for people who really need it bad. I know of some people whose PC takes over an hour to calculate high quality shadows and other people whose PC fails to do the calculation altogether.

Also, for those people who really want it, Ultra Shadows can be requested.

My comp crashes with all qualities so this will be useful if I ever build tm2 maps.
