Hello MX !
Team Neyne is proudly presenting you the
Chase Valleycar Tournament, a cup based on the chase gamemode.
Being teamplay-reliant, chase is a funny yet technical way to enjoy TM !
What are the specific rules of this tournament ?
-
Team size : standard format is
3v3, that means at the beginning of each round there are 6 players driving on the map. Others go in spec mode.
-
Registering in more than 3 players is tolerated and even advised, so that you can sub in players if needed.
-
A map is played in a format of "best of 5 rounds" : the first team to win 3 rounds wins the map.
-
Match format is BO5 on maps : the first team to win 3 maps is declared winner against the other team. That is, winning a match = winning 3 maps = winning a lot of rounds, at least 9 !
-
Giving up (= press delete key) during a round
is tolerated ! The point is, your team needs at least 2 plyers to build up a relay, so use it with caution.
-
Special bug rule : sometimes the script doesn't work out correctly when a player gives up, and no name for the relay is showing up on the screen. If this happens, tell it in the chat, and the round will be restarted.
-
Obvious behaviour rules : be nice in the chat, play in a team-oriented manner, don't call giveup-bug abusively, switch to spectator mode when it's not your turn to play !
Cool cool, but what about the format, the maps and their length... ?
The format of the competition is
still to be defined (all vs all, knockout...), as we need to know the number of teams that will register in the competition. It will be
announced on August 15th !
The
map pool is being built with caution at the moment. It will be
released very soon. Sure things : maps will be
multilaps and played on either
Canyon or Valley scenery, but always with the
physics of the Valley car !
For a round to reach its end, it takes typically 2 minutes (if one team fails a lot) to 8 minutes (finishing a long map).
And the schedule ?
The CVT is to be held on
August 21st and 22nd, in two sessions :
- First session on the night between the 21st and the 22nd,
beginning at 21:00 CET (GMT+1)
- Second session on the night between the 22nd and the 23rd,
also beginning at 17:00 CET (GMT+1)
We can possibly set matches on other times, if it fits for both teams !
At the moment we cannot give details on how long the sessions will last. It depends on your participation !
How can I register ?
Do it before August 14th, 24:00 CET !
The access to the cup is totally
free, you just need to build up a
team of at least 4 players. If you are grouping up together for this very competition, it's fine too, you don't have to be an all-time team to compete !
- Register on this thread : make your post visible (!) and mention the name of your team and both login name and nick of your members, if possible.
- Register to Neyne members : using the Maniaplanet mail system to Beatinfected (beatinfected), Steve (19steven92) or myself (adri_rallye). Mention the name of your team and both login name and nick of your members, if possible.
- Register by Skype : I know some of you are in contact with Beat and Steve, you can see what it's all about with them !
Wait, wait, wait... you're gonna pay me for that ?
I have way too many planets... so the winners will get
10000 of them, shared between all the registered players !
Can I get some links on top of that, please ?
-
Servers : search for "chase" in the name !
Space Chase,
Nexus Multi-Chase and
Speed Dreams Chase are our friends, you will enjoy visiting them !

And what if I have questions or remarks ?
This thread is here for that reason !
Asking questions is the best thing to do, as part of this presentation might remain unclear. If you have
an idea you want to share, do it too ! Also,
feel free to PM me if needed.
Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you taking part !
I've been Dementia, covering live the CVT for Team Neyne.

Appendix : chase rules and tips
What is chase gamemode ?
Chase is a
team-oriented gamemode played in a format of rounds, where
two teams compete against each other. You need to
respect relays.
When
crossing each checkpoint (CP), a "wait" message or a
player name will show up on your screen :
- If it is
your name, you are the relay : you need to drive as fast as possible to the next CP
- In
other cases, you need to wait for the relay : slow down in order to let the relay overtake you before the next CP
If the relay crosses the CP he was going for
in first,
the team is rewarded a point
The relay of each team is the last player of it, in case of balanced match (3v3, 4v4...). If the match is uneven, the size of the smallest team is taken into account. For instance in 4v3, the relay of the team of 4 is the third player, so both teams have their third player as relay.
Anyway, if you want to score points, just wait for the guy whose name shows on the screen !
There are multiple
ways to win a round :
-
Point gap, the most common : when you have
scored 3 points more than the other team. You don't even have to reach the finish of the map, the round win is directly rewarded to your team !
-
Map finish : the
first player to reach the finish of a map offers round win to his team, regardless from the number of points of each team and the classification of other players.
-
Forfeit : if
many players from the opposite team give up so that only one poor player remains, you get a free win for the round, and the right to gently make fun of your opponents for their skills in quickscoping the delete key.
-
Reaching the time limit : we've set it so high you won't reach it, so it doesn't matter
Ok, for you it's easy... maybe some tips ?
- Captain Obvious speaking here,
train your teamplay on the Chase servers (list below).
- Dont wait for the last moment to let the relay overtake you.
Make your drive fluid, avoid getting to a complete stop as much as possible.
- Consider stealing CP from your relay if it is worth it in terms of momentum. Be careful though,
3-point-gap doesn't allow many mistakes.
- Don't forget to
bind the "free look" button in the settings to be able to look behind you.
- The default key to show/hide players ghost is 'o', the one to show/hide players name is the key under 'esc' ('~' for the most of us, '²' for the French out here...)
