The Track Review Thread²
I remember this thread from TMU-X, and I think it was also on the Nations site. I thought I might try to start it up again here; it was a nice way to get feedback for tracks, and also a method of advertising in a non-spammy way if you feel your track has been overlooked or ignored. :d

It's pretty simple really - post a track you'd like someone to review here. And then that person will do this:

"the_original_thread" says:

Try to comment on:

Flow: Flow looks at how smooth the track feels. For example; Are you gliding smoothly around all the corners? Or are you slamming into walls\poles due to poor placement? Are you flying off the end of the track? Do the jumps throw your car into an awkward and unhelpful spin? Now the flow is relative to the track: Sometimes a track is supposed to be a bit bouncy (EG: Dirt road sections in the Stadium) however: If the choppy\bouncy flow has a negative impact on the track: Mention that and state why.

Speed: Speed is once again relative to the track. Some tracks would be better faster, while others are good at being a slower speed. EG: A Island Track should never be the same speed as a Coast Track and vice-versa. However: Do you find yourself spending more time on the breaks due to badly placed booster tracks? Are you over-shooting jumps or checkpoints? Is the track so slow that the corners are easy and dull? Describe how well the speed suits the track. Try to remember that a slow track can sometimes be better than a fast track.

Scenery: Scenery can add a lot to a track. Not only will it make your track look good, but it can be more fun to jump through a loop or over a building than simply to fly through the empty air. Scenery can also clutter up a track too much so that it lags in online-play. Comment on whether or not the Scenery made the track more fun or not.

Media Tracker: If the track was designed to be downloaded from within the program: There will be no Media Tracker. However: Other tracks can suffer from bad camera angles, intrusive text or badly used effects. Comment if the track suffers from a lack of Media-Tracker or if it uses it correctly.

Difficulty: Let's face it: Trackmania can be a frustrating game. Is the track harder\easier than advertised? Is the track frustrating and too difficult to complete? Is it too easy to get a good time or is there lots of room for improvement to get better and better times? State whether or not the track is too hard\easy for it's own good.

Overall Fun: Sometimes, a track can be too easy, flow like a rockfall, have horrible stunts, have the worst camera angles and absolutely no scenery yet still somehow manage to be an absolute blast to fly around. Rate the track out of 10 and give a final comment as to how fun the track is to drive.

After commenting on these criteria: Feel free to post your own track for review.

You can comment on as many or as few of those things as you like, but if you didn't like it, please don't just type "This sucks" and move on. Obviously the poster wanted some actual feedback, and you're just wasting everyone's time by disregarding him ;)

moderators: if this becomes successful, a sticky would be really nice (l)

Seems like not much people are interested in this topic. I'm not that good at writing such review but I give it a try now anyways:

Flow:
Although there is only 1 real jump the flow is quite nice. I think to the "flow" you have also to add the slide parts and how they're to drive. In this case very good. So the flow is good, too. Also the lil humps between street and the big areas a good placed: You can "jump" in the corners and slide through them without usin the brakes.

Speed:
The speed of this track is perfect: not to fast and not to slow. It's fast enough for getting a nice challenging and rushing through the corners and not to fast for loosing control in the corners. Don't know what I should write more :p

Scenery:
The scenery is okay. Sometims it's a way to spartan for me. At the start it could be a lil more for example.

Media Tracker:
You don'T have to say much here. There's a intro and a GPS so everything important is done imo. Some people like internal on wallrides but I don't care.

Difficulty:
I needed 3-4 trys to get a 43 with a clean run. So as you said in your track details the map is intermediate. It's defintly not frustrating but still a nice challenge.

Overall:
What we got here is a really nice challenge. I'm not a big fan of the finish turn, because it's to long imo. I'm also more the transistion and the jump guy so I miss a lil bit action here although the sliding parts are quite cool. Because of this and the rest i mentioned here I give this track a 7.5/10.

Well done jet777 you build a quite nice challenge!

To my map:

Finishing this map with a clean run is at least intermediate. Take your 5-10 minutes (depends on your skill :p) to understand the parts, the GPS will help you here. Hope you have fun ;)

@cehpid's track:

Flow: The track flows well. Pretty cool track ;)

Speed: The speed is just good for a tech track.

Scenery: The scenery is enjoyable. And i think it's better than I could have done.

Media Tracker: Well, the intro is not my taste. Sorry. The outro is just a cam3 view, but this doesn't change the fact that the rack is good (y)

Difficulty: If I easily finished the track, then it's an easy track. The difficulty is just fine ;)

Overall Fun:
My rating is 8.5/10 Well done!

TRACK TO REVIEW

@ Jenga:

Flow: The flow in this track is good. I really like the first few transitions, especially landing on the raceway roof ;) There's never any flowbreaking curves, but it does take one or two rounds getting to know when to drift or not. Nothing to complain about!

Speed: Speed is good. It gives a nice adrenaline rush without being overkill. There's never any need to brake in corners.

Scenery: The scenery is nice, nothing very special except for that Jenga tower (which is a cool idea, and even cooler since we get to ride underneath it!). Track looks beautiful without lagging, good job here.

Media Tracker: The GPS is smooth and nice, and the addition of notes is a great idea. Also, the "follow me" cars are ++, they really do simplify things. I'd love an intro, but it's not neccecary.

Difficulty: It's one of those easy to learn and hard to master tracks, and this without being boring. Finishing isn't difficult.

Overall Fun: I liked this track! Going two laps with pretty much only turns to the right isn't super-fun, but they are varied and the layout of the track is very well thought out. Also, I'm a sucker for re-use parts, and you implemented them well.
For a rating, I'm giving this track a 7.5. Award coming "soon" (I've got quite a few tracks I want to award, just gotta find the time some evening :$), it's worth it!

Oh, and the screenshot is BEAUTIFUL (l)!

About my track,

It might be a bit difficult for an intermediate map, I wasn't sure about that.
I get the feeling I've been overlooked... However if that's not the case, please go hard on me (:p), and tell me what I need to improve on my next track. Cheers!

Yes, you've definitely been overlooked. :|

Flow - Very nice in this one! The corners are easy enough, and have some nice drifts, and there are also some good, simple transitions. That's a combination that every author should be proud of^^

Speed - Works well here. Not too fast, not too slow... there isn't much to say in this category :p

Scenery and mediatracker are perfectly fine here, I don't think they need their own sections^^

Difficulty - The track is easy in an accessible kind of way, for me at least. The corner on the cliff road is a little challenging, though, but in a good way (y)

Overall Fun - This isn't lacking in any category, but yes, it is also fun to drive. It's this sort of unknown track that compelled me to revive this thread at MX - keep building and you might be going places :d
8.5/10

Well now I guess I'll have to use my only other published track at this site.. :p

This thread gets overlooked again.. so I gonna post a review again:

I drove this one some time before and it was one of my favorite maps online, because i almost won each run on this one.

Flow:
The flow is quite nice. I love this U-turns you built at the beginning also the second u-turn is quite nice to drive. The map is smooth, besides that one big jump, so also this poin is okay. what I really love are the two last corners because the first can be drivin no-slide Fs and the 2nd almost ns-fs. So there're not really parts which kill the flow of the map.

Speed:
Speed is awesome. As I said before you drive the 2nd last corner perfectly ns-fs (even if you didn't want to build it like that :p )

Scenery:
Scenery is cool, but I don't remember much of it

MT:
Intro isn't that amazing and the GPS is missing, but the way is quite clear so it's not that big issue.

Difficutly:
Awesome for online hunting. I think that says it all.

Overall Fun:
As I sai upper it's one of my fav maps I drove online, really like the speed and the route. I give it an 8,5/10 , because of the MT

Here's my new one:

Again: Take your time practicing the route or you won'T have fun at all!

Colin...

Flow: The flow is interesting, I must admit. Areas of the track are bouncy and have a nice "rally" feel whilst sections have a smooth flow featuring banked turns. I think the changing in flow is nice, giving the track another dimension but maybe the changes in flow are slightly too rapid. I feel that it can't make up its mind what type of track it is. Jumps are good though on a positive.

Speed: Speed is kept around the same (steadily increasing) throughout the track. The speed is good, though I feel that it doesn't correlate to flow as well as it could do. Smoother sections should be faster in my opinion.

Scenery: Great scenery, I feel you've got it spot on. The rugged, bumpy scenery gives the feeling of isolation and wilderness which bumps up that rally feel.

Media Tracker: I'm not sure if it was me, but the GPS seemed temperamental. One minute it was working, next minute it wasn't with an interesting glitch on the second to last jump where you seemed to go through the ramp. I swear that was what I saw, at least 3 times. However, the intro is phenomenal and one of the best I have seen on Canyon.

Difficulty: I would probably bump the difficulty up a notch. Its not easy at all; in fact very tricky and because of the bumpy route and needing to know the track a bit first, I wouldn't recommend it for online play. However, solo... it serves a challenge. Very frustrating.

Overall Fun: I didn't sense much fun. I'm sorry, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I could of if the track was a little more forgiving. It is too frustrating for me.

Overall, I'll give it a 6. The scenery gave it a wilderness feel although the changes in flow didn't suit me and it was a little frustrating. However, the intro was unbelievable and definitely commendable. Good job! 6/10

Ok osl112

This is what i think
The pf at start is a bit boring, it's just a straight piece with a big jump, this could be more spectacular
The speed is ok, but the poles are a very annoying.
You feel like you are dodging poles and when you get to the wallride you don't have the time to react to that because of the poles before that.
The Mt work is clean but nothing special.
If you want your track to get played online you should think about the avarage player too.
The scenery is ok, not much more you can do on fs maps ;)
Difficulty for online to hard, offline it depends on your patience :)
So it was fun to try a few time, but the boring first 6 seconds quickly play with your patience when you slam into another pole.

6/10

can someone take a look at my track(s)

I feel like i'm been ignored here :-w
I put much time in every track

This one has some nice transitions, good flow and speed imo, and gets good respons online
so why ignored here?
