Connection to internet drops off regularly
Well hi,

as you can read I'm getting kinda ****** off because of my connection
when I'm not playing games, the connection is doing fine
however, when I go play some games, it often happen that my connection drops off which is quite annoying when playing online or being busy with an official time

our 'b-box' is placed in our living room at the pc from my dad
since it's wireless I'm able to get connection to internet on my room which is on the second floor
could it be that the signal is just too weak for playing online?

if you need any other details, let me know
and solutions could be handy too
even if I have to buy something to increase the signal from our modem

thanks
petey

maybe try moving your computer to living room and testing from there? ^^ or moving router to your room...

that's off the point atm

it's not that I'm going to move it all just to wonder if it'll work or not
perhaps in last case I might, but I'm sure there are other things

You could also ask your dad to pass a cable to your room. Wireless routers usually have 2 slots for cable. That would be best for gaming.
Or get an amp/booster for the signal.
Easy way to test the signal would be to take a smart phone and check the signal bar as you walk upstairs. ^^
..wasn't me

hmm, don't have a smartphone XD
also thought about such a 'booster' stick :)
might probably be the best solution

especially I'm 99.9% sure that my mother won't allow my dad to get a cable through 2 floors (or everywhere on the roof/wall) to get it on my room. for the other 0.01%, my dad won't be liking it to do sth like that XD

I'm a floor and a house's width away from my router. I still get 4 bars of signal strength. Those things can reach pretty far ...

How old is the adapter in your computer? Is there a lot of metal between it and the router?

well, my pc itself is from september 2009
the signal goes through some kind of antenna placed at the back from my pc
I might post a picture if there's need to

it's just weird that it's mostly just when I play games that I lose my connection, not?

If it was a proximity issue, then you'd notice it during normal activities. Maybe it drops out a little while you're browsing, but the browser waits for it. Games don't like to wait as long.

Are you using an up-to-date driver?

gotta admit that it sometimes also drops off during non-gaming activities
but not that much as with gaming

hmm, explain this noob how to check my drivers from the internet :p
I don't know enough from a pc to solve those problems :(

How about a cable strung across the stairwell when you're gaming and disconnected afterwards?
