First I have to say, it's good to see that we can have a serious discussion about that topic without someone posting some crap.
We should be careful to not mix things up.
- It's really not that we Germans don't want to hear about Hitler. In fact we do all the time. History class in school hardly teaches anything else than how bad your grandparents where, there are special "memorial events" all the time, movies, documentaries...We are really looking into that subject.
- About the movie-link: I just wanted to tell you that it's a movie (pure information). I didn't find it funny, probably because I understand what he really sais.
- Making fun of Hitler: I think we
have to! Showing the stupidity of this is important. And humor should never back off from anything!!! (I'm a great fan of South Park btw.)
- Making him a Pop-Star: using his voice without any meaning is dangerous. It doesn't matter if you understand the words. You know it is Hitler. It shouldn't be used without any comment. If it's presented in a Pop-Song, it looks like the whole thing isn't "that bad", or like it's a popular opinion, or even just cool.
What if it was the voice of Osama Bin Laden or that Utoya-amok-guy (german media did a cool job hardly mentioning his name...)?
I don't have a problem with using such things in general, but you should have to say something/ it should have a meaning. As an artist you should always ask youself: "Why am I doing this?".
- @ZopUH: just to make it clear: I didn't think you were a Nazi, that's especially why I take the time to write. I'm giving you this hint from one musician to another:
give it a meaning or don't do it!
Imagine, in five years you are about the receive the MTV-MA and somebody comes up with this old song he has found on the internet. Then you'll have to explain something...
Sticking with selfish reasons: It's hard to say, because the song sounds like quite an amount of work, but could you please remove the link and post some other songs, because I don't want the music of my band in the same thread as Hitler.
Schtonk!
