Welcome to
the first Mania Exchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), October 2011, hosted by
MX.
In the MTC, your task is to build a track on a given theme (see below). Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated by our judges and a winner will be found.
The Details
Let's have a look at the details of the contest:
Theme of the Month: Variety - The surface of your track must change every 5 seconds.
Deadline: Wednesday the 19th of October 2011.
Prizes:
First place: Showcase on the frontpage*
*You may choose a track to be showcased on the frontpage. It can be a self-made creation or the work of someone else (which has got a maximum of 10 awards already).
The rules:
You have to build a track where the surface changes every 5 seconds. You may use as many surfaces as you want in your track.
"Surface" means: If a surface has a
different texture than another surface, it is a
different surface.
Air does not count as a surface - however, it won't count as the previous surface either (eg. if your track has 4 seconds of platform, then a 2-second-jump, and then offroad, it's fine)
The theme only applies to the track itself, not to the scenery.
Author time maximum: 1:30 minutes. No time minimum.
You may submit ONE track.
Name your track "
TrackName (MTC)", where "TrackName" is whatever name you want to give the track. EXAMPLE: "Variety (MTC)".
The track must have been uploaded to the exchange between (and including) Sunday the 2nd and Wednesday the 19th of October 2011.
General tips:
The "General tips" are just recommendations. You won't get disqualified if you do not follow them, but they tend to help your track and its appreciation by general player population.
Try making checkpoints respawnable.
Ghost replays that show how to drive (GPS) do NOT relieve you of your moral obligation to provide guidance during the race (signs or other visual hints on where to go).
Always provide your track on MX with a screenshot that shows something from the track, and add a description of what can people expect if they play your track.
Important: To enter a track, simply upload it and post your submission in THIS thread.
The Judging System
A number of judges will rate the tracks on the following topics:
Design – Flow, smoothness, layout, speed, transitions, stunts, difficulty, etc. The general "feel" of the track.
Max 20 points/judge
Scenery – Looks, non-driveable blocks, etc.
Max 5 points/judge
Media Tracker – All the MT aspects, from the intro and outro to in-game features.
Max 5 points/judge
Fun Factor – Sometimes a track can be poor in every way, but still extremely fun to drive. Depending on how fun the judges find your track, a few extra points can be given.
Max 10 points/judge
Theme - Depending on how you build your track within the given guidelines, you'll get more points on this area: A track which grasps the idea of "Variety" will probably score higher than a track with a trackpath like "5 seconds GP - 5 sec platform - 5 sec GP - 5 sec platform".
Max 10 points/judge
Regarding the final results, the lowest and highest score of each track will be deleted and the average of the "medium scores" decides - if the number of judges is at least 5.
We need reliable and committed judges, so if you want to volunteer as a judge, please send a PM!
