Sorry I haven't posted in the topic lately.
I've been very impressed with everyone's parts so far. Quite a few people have finished and submitted their parts. One builder left the project, Redrot, and another filled his place within 10 minutes, Cuba.
cl_ment and another guy during the PMC expressed interest in the project, but unfortunately for them all the slots are filled. So if anyone is thinking of quitting, you can be reassured that someone will take your place quite quickly I think.
I've updated the list in the OP. We're now only waiting on 10 builders to submit their parts.
Hans Holo says:
- do we have a name, yet?
No we don't.
Suggestions welcome!
Hans Holo says:
- do we have a video-guy making a trailer (i think this track deserves one)?
I kinda assumed I would make it.
My video channel is fairly well known already (at least as far as TrackMania channels go),
to maximize exposure, and I'm experienced with making long videos. I made a video of a 15+ minute coast track and a 6 minute Canyon track already. My channel is unlocked for videos longer than 10 minutes.
But, I planned to make a short trailer first... a week before the track release (
example of a trailer I made), and then a video of the entire track and release it the day after the track is released, with timecode links in the description so you can jump to any builder's part and watch their part.
I'm not against other people making videos of the track after it's released.
I would hope a video of the WR would be made after it's set.
Hans Holo says:
- how is the track going to be presented (online/offline competition)?
Depending on if all parts are received in time or not, I planned to release it on December 20, immediately after the Planets Millions Cup. In addition to the full 25 Builder track, I've decided to make several smaller tracks (7 to 14mins each) and submit them for the PMC. This way, everyone can become aware of the project during the PMC, and then check out the full version afterwards. I haven't discussed this with stef yet (who runs the PMC), and as I said... it highly depends on if we finish in time. I think we will though. Everyone is finishing their parts rather quickly.
The PMC has been short on tracks lately, so this will be a way for the MX community to give back to one of the most popular events held every month in TM2. And it can also be a legitamate reason to make some shorter tracks out of the parts submitted, because I think we've all become aware of the fact that some player's computers will not be able to handle the full track.
Builders of PMC tracks receive a 1000 planet bonus for every map they have in the PMC. I would put all those Planets towards an offline WR competition on the full 25 builder track.
Hans Holo says:
- about the names during the track:
I always find it very annoying on duo-tracks when the name of the builder pops up.
Yeah I do too. I felt like somewhat of a hypocrite when I wrote that I was going to add it, because I was quite adamant about not adding those names to the "mx Crew on Canyon 1 track" when we were building it.
Hans Holo says:
Maybe the sign-solution eyebo suggested would be good, but then, the chances of overlooking the sign might be great (what wouldn't bother me).
Possibly, though I could use one of the giant sign blocks. (3-7-3 or 5-1-4). They're pretty hard to miss.
Hans Holo says:
Another solution could be f. e., to have a (colored) rectangle with the drivers name in it, visible all the time. So if only the name inside the rectangle changes, it doesn't catch too much attention, but you can always look up whose part it is, when you want to.
This is possible, though these clips would have to be copied to every single CP in their given parts, so that the name was persistent even after respawns.
1. It seems like a huge amount of work.
2. It may not work, because MediaTracker is still kinda buggy about stuff like that.
It's an idea worth considering though.
