MTC December 2017/January 2018: Endurance (Results on page 3!)

Welcome to the Monthly Track Contest (MTC) for December 2017/January 2018, hosted by eyebo!

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme. Later, all the entered tracks are rated and a winner is found.

    Theme of the Month: Endurance
    Build a long track.

    Theme Specific Rules
    • Your author time must be over 4 minutes.

    Allowed:
    • All environments
    • Blockmixing
    • Embedded items
    • TM2 TitlePack (for EnvMix)
    • Stadium64 base
    • Custom time of day
    • Day/night cycle
    • Mods (if a locator is included)

    Not Allowed:
    • Multilap
    • Player made TitlePacks
    • Press Forward, Left, Right, or similar tracks

    General Rules
    • You may submit ONE TRACK maximum.
    • Duo tracks are allowed; but each map counts as one track for each author involved.
    • MTC should be present in the track name. Example: Simpli-city (MTC); or [mtc] Ruins of Life;
or MTC - time for dreams (check that any special characters do not break in the TM or MX track name).
    • The track should be built in the most recent version of the game.

    Tips
    • If judges can drive a time considerably under 4 minutes, they may choose to deduct theme points. If you're a slower driver you may want to pad your track with extra length. Ask someone faster to beta test your track if you're not sure.
    • Make it possible to continue by respawning from any CP.
    • Give clear indication where the route leads. In an endurance track it's sometimes possible to jump to another section of the route and miss CPs. Block off wrong routes and make the correct route the obvious one.
    • Be careful of introducing cuts. The longer your track, the more likely cuts may be introduced. Adding plenty of strategically placed CPs helps prevent this.

    Deadlines
    • Your track should be uploaded before the end of Sunday January 21, 2018 at midnight EST
    • Public voting will go from January 22nd to February 5th
    • Results are calculated the week of February 5th

    Prizes
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope some still remember him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

    How to Submit

    Judging: Public and internal
We will use a 50/50 mixture of the public voting system and the internal judging
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a track, but the vote for your own track will not count (give your own map a 10).
    • You must have access to all environments and vote for all tracks for your votes to count.
    • Every track will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (good).
    • The internal judging will note some detailed feedback with points based on categories (Theme [20p], Creativity [10p], Funfactor [10p], Detailwork/Scenery/MT [10p]).

Good luck, and if you have any questions, please ask!

Are one-lap multilaps allowed?

Multilap implies there being multiple laps, and last I checked "one " doesn't suggest that so I'd assume you're fine. Even then, you could always put an end piece/item near the start piece if it isn't allowed.

Sure, "multilap" maps set to 1 lap are allowed. As long as that 1 lap meets the time requirements.

Would the world even be ready for a 4 minute long fullspeed map.

im playing through steam. Where do i dump the title pack and stadium base? btw, does the stadium base work for all Environments?

Stadium alone does not work for envimix, but you can always build your map in the standard Stadium titlepack; you need all 4 environments if you want to do any envimixing. It does not matter if you are using the Steam version or standalone of ManiaPlanet for this, either.

Titlepacks always go in documents->ManiaPlanet->Packs, except for the default titlepacks (Stadium, Canyon, etc) which will just be available to owners of the environments. Packs will also always end in .gbx, so if you have a .zip or other compressed folder you'll need to extract the files with 7-zip or another similar tool.

Once you put the pack.gbx file where Arkive said, restart the game, and you can click on an empty station in-game and choose to install "from disk". And then find the TrackMania 2 titlepack in the group of (what appears to be) DVD jewel cases that appears.

Normally you would be able to install from the Store in-game, but Nadeo hasn't updated the TM2 titlepack and released it in the store yet. So we can only use the old version. That's why it's linked here. Multiplayer doesn't work in it currently, but you can still use it to build maps.

Regarding the Stadium64 base.... you can drop that in Documents\ManiaPlanet\Maps\My Maps\
And then in-game when you open Stadium, it'll show up as a map you can edit. Then just save it with a different name. You can always use it as a base/template map.

Titlepack?
So, I can build my Track with the Default TM2 Stadium Titlepack?

Unless the theme specifically disallows it for whatever reason, you should be safe to use any TM2 titlepack (Stadium or otherwise).
