Here is the second part of the project. This time we have an experienced all-round driver & mapper, NitroGuY!! You can find more infomation about the project here in the forum. -- 1. Could you tell us something about yourself? My name is Alex, and I'm currently 16 years old, 17 in April. My father is Japanese and my mother is Native American. I live in Washington state, the top left corner of America. When I'm not busy, I'm always listening to music or playing Trackmania. I also love to produce music and DJ a little as well. This means I'm a huge fan of all electronic genres, except Dubstep (I don't like that wob-wob-wob -_-). Just like Shadow's parents, my mom yells at me whenever the house shakes from the bass. ^^ I'm a big fan of Indie Rock as well. I love to play tennis, even though I'm not extremely skilled. I don't usually have time to see my friends other than at school, but when we get together, we always do some mixing or multiplayer on TM2. Sometimes we go to a park or the local bowling alley/arcade for some fun as well. 2. How did you find TrackMania? When it happened? I first heard the name "Trackmania" in third grade, when I was 8 years old. It looked interesting, but I soon forgot about it. One years later, I downloaded the demo of TMS, and I was instantly hooked! Unfortunately, when I was that old, money wasn't easy for me to get. I bought TMO and played that for the next year until I finally bought TMS and played for hours every day with the editor. I was never very good until I released my first map in TMU, of December 2006. It was showcased, and I received 46 awards! I continued to build and build, and finally stopped at 92 solo maps. I still love building though. I've been very busy lately, however. 3. There aren't that many American players in TM compared to the size of the country. Do you have any idea why? I know it's the same in all countries, but I think it's a bit worse in America-just about everyone plays CoD, WoW, Battlefield, or some sort of RPG/FPS game. Not many people enjoy racing games, and the only ones that do are the Mario Kart fans. I've concluded that most Americans don't know what's good in life. ^^ 4. You're known as an island & coast builder but have also many tracks with other envis. Which environments are you favorite to build and drive and why? The most fun environment to build in, for me, is definitely island. There are so many insane ideas to be made. With an insanely fast car, it's even better. Coast is my favorite driving environment, mostly because it's probably the environment I'm best at driving. I love the relaxing feel to it. I think it's important to have diversity between the environments, so that's why I've built at least 2 or 3 maps of each one. Also, there's always some crazy idea in my head or something. 5. Having received over 2000 awards in TMU exchange, can you tell us what makes a good track? For my past 30 maps or so (not sure exactly how many), I've been focusing on using as little transitions as possible. Difficult/insane transitions take the fun away from the map in my opinion. I love fullspeed maps with massive jumps and well-flowing curves. I always enjoy some guys like Cool-T creating brand new transitions and jumps, but most of the time, I don't like the map overall.....unless it's by Cool-T Mediatracker isn't important for me. It never truly represents a map, unless the map is built around the mediatracker. For example, “Venice Challenge” by tamonte has some of the best MT I've ever seen. My last few TMU maps were a track built around the scenery, I called them “scenery projects,” because they felt like an entirely different game when viewing the scenery. 6. Could you have excepted that your track FlowCoast United will have so many awards (103 at the moment)? After I released it, it was played online often and many enjoyed it (which was actually a huge surprise). It stopped gaining awards at around 60. I uploaded it to PPO over 1 year later and it received about 20-25 more awards. Once it was at around 90, I spammed it just to say I broke the 100 award barrier (quite stupid, I know ^^). I must admit, I really think it's quite a fun track, but it definitely does not deserve 100+ awards! 7. What is your favorite track right now? Why? There are too many amazing maps to say for sure which one is my favorite. But the first one that comes to mind is Gravitation by Homie. It's the map that inspired Don't Stop Me Now, and most of my other island maps. 8. Who is the most underrated author to your mind? No doubt, it's “sammon”. He's one of my best friends in real life, and we met each other through Trackmania. Almost every map he releases receives about 10-15 awards, and they truly deserve a lot more compared the maps on Best Of The Week. 9. And who is the best mapper in TM series? There are two best mappers - Homie and Ique/Iquere. No one has come close to making maps with the same insane style that they have. They're truly Trackmania legends in my eyes! 10. You have also built two maps in canyon environment. What do you thing about building with the new editor? The editor itself is great, but I don't see too much creativity with the track pieces. I do enjoy driving a lot, especially fullspeed maps. I think there just wasn't enough diversity in the track pieces for fullspeed maps. I've seen some pretty amazing tech maps, though. I don't think the editor is for me. Maybe I'm too used to the TMUF editor? Who knows. 11. You have also driven in some leagues. In which teams you have been driving and what? To be honest, I haven't participated much in leagues. So far, it has been with SFFN in the UL6 (division 9) and with exD in TWL (division 6, but I think we're good enough for division 5). My “career” in Trackmania has been with the freestyle community. Freestyle is my favorite mode in TM, because you can use your creativity and skill to drive some really cool stunts. While participating in the freestyle cup, I took 2nd in 2008 season 2 and 1st in 2009 season 1, as well as 3rd in 2011 season 1. 12. Bah Alex, everything you said here I already know, thats sooo laame.....
If we play Need for Speed together, it was everytime so much fun, even if I ragequited often cause of your skill or those stupid noobs, who didnt even know how to drive left or right! -.- Propably the day, where I met you first time, was one of the biggest moments in my tm career, srsly, we were skyping around 100hours/month or even more. Even your mum and your dad say hello to me, if we skype, thats so damn cool! I hope I can get that fucking money to fly to your home, 700-900€ is a lot, but I will visit you one time, even if it takes one year longer to get that money, I will be there one time and then I will through firstly your FUCKING keyboard out of the window, so you cannot play it anytime again if the match at NFSHP is loading Srsly Alex, I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH!!!!! Well thats everything I wanted to say! |

Great interview! I've known NitroGuY for years now, and I learned some new things here.
One correction though, he drove UL6 with SFFN in division 9, not division 6. He probably could have driven in a higher division, but the rest of us were too slow to keep up. |
