Do not take this as a return

Good night ManiaExchange!

As the 10th anniversary of canyon celebrations draw to a close, I decided to check back on some old tracks, partly spurred by the 100 track title and partly because I just wanted to kill some time. One of the tracks played was my second release here. I noticed it could do with some polish applying some things I didn't see in the original and some things that didn't exist in the original, and decided to do so as I also noticed it was very close to its own 10th anniversary. The track was modified to smoothen out an early drop, clear out some obstacles, improve the drop into the canyon and make a bit more action from what used to be the final checkpoint into the finish line. I used techniques old and new (some custom blocks and even some personally edited ones) to do so, and also did it while keeping within the rules of the MTC that the original was built for. In fact, given there are more drivable surfaces in canyon than there were on release, the track now drives on two more surfaces - both related to the magnetic tubes, you'll see. I also added a GPS and retooled signage, but I'm not sure it'll work. It's ManiaExchange signpack signs, but it could be the old one that doesn't work anymore, it's been a while.

From the original, the track retains most of the route, the intro work and a slightly modified outro to cope with the finish revamp. It adds scenery and track weight (now at 8830cc, with some from scenery and some from custom blocks), a loopcam to deal with one of the new areas and general polish.

:award: clocks in at 57.61, a hair faster than the newly introduced GPS at 58.48. There is time on the board of course - I haven't played this game consistently in about 3 years minimum and the canyon section is still there with all it's finnicky nature intact and in fact, enhanced, by a better drop section. Let's say that you're gonna need bigger brakes than 10 years ago.

Added some bgm as well - xi's Halcyon. Not really fitting with canyon as a whole but it's really energetic music while also sounding good enough for a credits sequence. I really don't know if I'll ever be truly active in the game again so that seems fitting.

This whole revamp project was taken up in 4 days, that's why there's no screenshot yet. I might try to come up with one and anyone is free to try at it if they want to - ping me on discord (I'm in smurfs server as my most trackmania adjacent community that I keep notifs for) if you want to. My goal was also to release on the 10th anniversary of the track but I couldn't make it completely as it's now 3:20am of October 20th. I'll blame the comically uninspired implementation of shadow generation that took literally hours on my Ryzen 7 5800X+RX6800XT rig for no apparent reason, at least in part.

If you want to make a quick comparison, this showcase zone will be entirely devoted to the original since, again, I haven't really played in years. Signs don't work on it anymore so be cautious.

Also play the revamped "District 25 Reloaded", that thing shlapps.

Without further ado, hope you enjoy the new version of the track as much if not more as you enjoyed the old one.

Until we meet again, ManiaExchange
