Would it be possible to notified for more than just replays and comments?
I'd like to be notified if someone
- replies in a forum thread
- beats my lap record
- releases a new version of a track I downloaded

and also allow to turn on and off individualy

also:
- allow filtering notifications by environment (i dont care for Stadium for example)

I had been thinking about the idea of being able to "subscribe" to threads. Ones you started yourself you'd be automatically subscribed to.

Yep, this is the way it works. And there's a button for Enabling Notifications for a forum thread, even if you haven't contributed to it.
