Goodbye trackmania as we know it
Well I'm just one players with one voice, but it only takes one to say something.

Change track-mania to what is was before as i feel it was perfect. Once the map I'm working on gets released. I'm going to leave this game . I have spent money on buying this game and focus all my online gaming around this game. It has destroyed something great and whats worse I'm forced to do the updates , why update something that wasn't broken in the first place. Updating to get rid of cheaters and hackers ( totally understand ) so their hacks don't work, fair game, but completely making the game unplayable for the title pack i play ( which now has to be updated so everything works again, so I'm assuming ) .

this is a bad call from everyone involved and what should have been done was have a new title pack for each with the new update ( that was updated ) so all players can have their opinion of what they think, but guess that's too much to ask........

If you're a Stadium player like me then the temptation to return to TMU is now a strong one. I dislike updates and resent being 'forced' to accept one i don't want, + the need to update tracks etc. The game was perfectly fine with plently of extra playable content added by the community, and i really don't understand why this is needed.
Maniaplanet is sadly now already uninstalled from my pc, and when the time is right i'll return to Stadium racing with TMU probably.

For RPG tracks, it seems the physics are not compatible with the MP3 physics niether.
Example: when hitting jumps to make it to a platform higher up, the physics when using speed boosters is now different. It doesn't provide enough boost to jump the gaps. I tested this out after converting some of my tracks over to MP4 and I am now forced to go back and adjust/rebuild them to accomodate for this change.

Even though we can convert the tracks over keeping the original validation times, the problem remains with players not being able to complete them from start to finish unless the authors go in and adjust/fix them to fit the new physics.

I personally do not want to go back in and fix my tracks and will not do this as it will consume too much time on my part. Any track made that requires precision moves will most likely be effected by the new physics.

My suggestion for MP4 is to do a complete reset to MP3. Allow the players the choice to upgrade if they choose so.

Before re-releasing MP4, make sure all the bugs are worked out first before releasing it.

Another suggestion,
  • keep the size expansion from 2mb to 4mb,
  • create seperate downloads for new blocks/items only.
  • Reset the physics and sounds.

That's all that is needed. I enjoy Trackmania just as everyone else does. And I always like to see upgrades, expansions and improvements, but due to the low amount of players in TM2 rpg, I am really considering dropping back to TM1 rpg at this point or until this new update is 100% complete.

I know a lot of work and time went into this new update and many of us appreciate the effort of this being done, but as the old saying goes, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

In response to that post above, I feel especially sad for RPG track builders. I know that weeks, or even months, of work can go into a single track for you guys.

This is not the first time [Nadeo] have done this, and it yet again demonstrate their gross lack of consideration for their existing community.

As I said in the other thread, this update is simply a way to get more people back on board for them to make $£$ from Lagoon sales. This was not done magnanimously, and people have a right to complain. If they wanted to update the game in some capacity, what they could have done is actually develop measures to improve the community and make it less fractured across games.

It's great to talk about the game, the changes, how it affects you and how you play.

But please stop with the personal attacks.

Thank you.

While I completely understand your discretion as a moderator and you have only done what you feel is right, I would like to add this:

Suggesting that the IP would benefit from a a lead that is more sensible and has an ability to empathise with the community is not a personal attack. Nor is suggesting he should be fired. He is the lead responsible for this product. Hylis et al. being Hylis and his team. This is no different than calls for Trump to be removed from the White House; it is an external observation that he incompetent, and someone else now deserves a chance to lead.

This mentality is exactly why the game has gone to shambles and will continue to do so. No one wants to, or is allowed to, explicitly state who is responsible here; so nothing changes. Hylis is beyond dictator status on the MP forums, and he (or other staff) will lock threads after having getting their "word in". Actively blocking back and forth communication with the community. And now we can't even have an open conversation about who is responsible for this mess on an almost completely inactive website. This website that has been previously affected by Hylis et al. 's lack of both integrity and gratitude for its years of upkeep.

Again, I completely understand your position, eyebo. But I think you should reconsider what you consider to be a personal attack, as I think it is going to obstruct our ability to fully address what happened here. God knows we can't on other websites.

Thanks for understanding irondragons.

ManiaPlanet was an incredibly ambitious project for a very small team, and it's taken them years to develop it into what they want it to be.

Hylis co-founded Nadeo and lead the team to develop Trackmania into the game I know and love. So I'm not so quick to throw him under the bus.

The issue with moderation of the MP Forums is one I've heard before. But I also believe they have a right to moderate the forums the way they see fit.

We'll try to ease up a bit here on MX. Just try to keep it civil. (y)

I don't feel any big difference. The whine has always been the same. TMN to TMU stad. TMU to TMUF with new blocks. TMUF to TM2S with new engine. TM2S to MP3 and MP4 etc. Always little changes. I still don't notice big differences, but I love TMNF/TMUF one the most since I started the game with it. Evolution is good.

idc about any change, i won't even bother converting maps, no big deal. But [snip], WHY THE UGLY STADIUM BOOSTS... i swear to god, it irritates me sooo deeply. I couldn't do them uglier if i wanted... It looks like a very poorly made mod. Let's hope when I get some time to play again it gets changed... even if i'm sure it won't.
