MTC June 2017: Two Sided

Welcome to the ManiaExchange Monthly Track Contest (MTC), June 2017!

In the MTC your task is to build a track on a given theme. Later on, all of the entered tracks will be rated and a winner will be found.

Theme of the Month: Two Sided
Create a track where at least three checkpoints must be driven through both ways at least once (forwards and backwards.
    • The second crossing must be within the normal CP trigger zone like the first crossing.
    • More than three CPs may be used overall to help define the race line as long as at least three of them follow the rule.
    • The original race line should be clear enough to pass through all three CPs from both directions, but keep in mind replays on your track may get to the finish by any means, so include extra CPs if you wish.
    • Start, finish, and multilap blocks do not need to follow the above requirement.
    • The order in which the CPs are crossed does not matter, so that the second crossing of a CP can be done at any time.

    A Simple Example

    Video:

The main/intended line through the track should naturally guide the player back through the CPs, and there should not be any major cuts:

If you choose to use flats CPs, create some type of pillars/definition to the sides of the CP:

    Deadlines
    • All tracks should be submitted before the end of Sunday 25th, June 2017 PDT.
    • Public voting will go from June 26th to June 30th
    • Results are calculated on June 30th

    Prizes
:gold: Honour and the right to brag! (Jozii used to say that. I hope anyone still remembers him? :p)
:gold: The top 3 winners will receive a showcase of a track of their choice (< 10 awards)

    General Rules
    • Track or lap length must be below 75 seconds
    • MTC should be present in the mapname. Example: MTC.Skyfall , MTC - Skyfall , etc
    • 1 map per author

    • All environments are allowed
    • Custom objects are allowed
    • Envimixing is allowed
    • Blockmixing is allowed
    • 64x64 mapbases are allowed

    • Custom Titlepacks are not allowed (also not the ESL and RPG titlepack)
    • Press Forward, Left, Right, or similar tracks are not allowed

    How to Submit
    • To enter a track, simply upload it and post a link to your submission here:
      MTC June 2017: Submission Thread.
    • You can update your map within the deadline as many times as you want. Though be mindful of replays submitted to your map!

    Judging: Public and internal
We will use a 50/50 mixture of the public voting system and the internal judging
    • Everyone is allowed to judge, even players who submitted a map, but the vote for your own map will not count (give you own map a 10).
    • Every map will be judged with marks from 1 (bad) to 10 (gud).
    • The internal judging will note some detailed feedback with points based on categories (Theme [20p], Creativity [10p], Funfactor [10p], Detailwork/Scenery/MT [10p]) - the point distribution might change slightly.

    • More judging details to be added soon

Good luck, and if you have any questions, please ask!

I think I might actually build something with this. Just not sure which environment I'll choose.

Note: The flat blue Stadium CPs or similar custom CPs for all environments are limited to one block wide and one block high to keep with the theme (ex. the xacxa 32x8 custom CPs only or similar sized custom CPs).

Since I was the one asking if this exploit is ok, I might aswell post the picture.

This is NOT allowed. Only one block wide CPs are allowed.

Thanks Racho (y) - right, that flat CP pictured is four Stadium blocks wide, and to keep with the theme the maximum size is the smallest flat CP size, 32x8, one Stadium block high and wide.

A different question/clarification: you choose which three CPs will follow the rule of going forwards and backwards, and all other CPs are considered extra.

If anyone has other questions, post them here or to myself before building, and I'll copy it here so others can see as well.

... says:
[2:14 PM] Poutrel: What about Valley Platform CP? Is it ok to drive it forward on the top floor and backward on the bottom floor?
[3:11 PM] Alex: And it's possible to initially trigger the CP from either the top or bottom floor? Then that's fine, yep
[3:14 PM] eyebo: you can trigger from either, but it always respawns on top floor
[3:14 PM] Alex: Sounds good! Then that should ke kept in mind for when the driver respawns, yeah

I have a multilap map with a first lap around 80 seconds and subsequent laps around 72 seconds. Is that OK?

That works; the average combined lap time is close enough to 75 seconds
