[Rant + Idea] Bought a G38 and I want to be able t... | 04 Jan, 2012 |

I bought a Logitec G38 Racing Wheel a while ago (I think it was two years ago) with the intention of playing Trackmania with it.
Bad idea. Not only was I much slower - not just because I wasn't used to it, I was off by five to ten seconds on my own tracks - but when switching back to the keyboard it took me a few tries before I was back to my normal somewhat-quick setting-WRs-on-obscure-tracks self. I even tried increasing sensitivity from the default minimum setting - that just made it worse. Why Nadeo doesn't want to fix analog controls is beyond me and raises some suspicions about what they are trying to do with Maniaplanet. Now, my idea is simple. We make a "wheel-friendly" category of tracks that can be raced with a wheel just as fast as with a keyboard (if not faster). The tracks have to be Wheel and Joystick friendly to qualify for this category. This will allow people who use analog controls or are transitioning to them to be able to race without having a handicap. |

Tuta says: Actually, it is a G27. The name slipped my mind. As for arcade games not designed to be played with a wheel, tell that to Midway and in fact every company that has made a racing game for arcades. By the way, Tuta, it's nice to talk to you again. I haven't seen you on since TMX. |

Arcade games shouldn't be played with a wheel, simple as that Go buy GTR or iRacing and experience the magic of a wheel in its real enviroment
BTW, what kinda wheel is the g38? Only G wheels from logitech are G25 and G27 |

Steering wheel, your reaction time increases and it is very difficult in fast turns and with keyboards, steering is more precise to have total control but it requires you to be good at pressing the arrows and the gamepad you can only control the right to take a curve easier than it is with the keyboard for you dab 20 times in the right pace and joysticks are the most difficult I think for it requires a different type of position, but I recommend gamepad for it is superior by far, imo.
But with the steering wheel so it can be fun and compete against friend on an easy track so everyone has the same conditions when you compete, the gamepad is clearly easier than steering wheel. But it depends. for some may think joysticks is the best and somebody else likes the keyboard but in the end it's just training, I think. |

I am using keyboards only since 11 years of Trackmania and personally think there will be never ever anything better for TM as i think its close to perfect. And therefore i don't see any need for gamepads or wheels. I am fine with that fact.
